Before I'd get in the ring...

"Before I'd get in the ring, I'd have already won or lost it on the road. The real part is won or lost somewhere far away from witnesses - behind the lines, in the gym and out there on the road, long before I dance under those lights."

Harada sensei...

Originally printed Kendo World Magazine, Vol. 2 Issue 2, 2003, but still a great reread. "When I went to study at the Tokyo College of Physical Education, I came under the instruction of Mihashi sensei. He was also a training addict. 'Getting one strike in when you can’t even muster enough strength to move any more is what you have to strive for.' In the final analysis, a real ippon, or point, is one that is scored when in a state of no mind, unconscious to your actions. The ability to do this or what I have gained from it is one of my greatest assets."
